The All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies (AJAPS) is an organization for amateur photographers founded in 1926 and supported by The Asahi Shimbun.
AJAPS consists of over 10,000 members and sponsors contests (All-Japan Photographic Contest, Japanese Nature Photo Contest, The International Photographic Salon of Japan, etc.).
One of these contests, “The International Photographic Salon of Japan,” is the oldest and most traditional contest organized by AJAPS.
The All-Kansai and All-Kanto Associations of Photographic Societies consolidated into the All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies in 1926. As its first project, the 1st International Photographic Salon of Japan was held in 1927.
The salon was initially held in alternate years and was temporarily suspended during World War II. Nevertheless, it has been held annually since the eleventh exhibition in 1951, and the current event is the 86th.
