The All-Japan Association of Photographic Societies (AJAPS) is organization for the amateur photographers that is founded in 1926, which The Asahi shimbun supports.
Ajaps is consists of about 18,000 members and sponsors contests (ALL-JAPAN PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTEST, JAPANESE NATURE CONTEST, THE INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGAPHIC SALON OF JAPAN etc).
One of contests ‘THE INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHGIC SALON OF JAPAN’ is the most traditional contest in Ajaps.
The All-Kansai and All-Kanto Associations of Photographic Societies consolidated into the All-Japan Association of Photographic Salon of Societies in 1926. As its first project, the 1st International Photographic Salon of Japan was held in 1927.
The salon was initially held in alternate years, and was temporarily suspended because of the Second World War. Nevertheless it has to come to be held annually through to the current 69th event since the eleventh exhibition held in 1950.
